Horse riding to the Church of San Piro

Horse riding trek to the Church of San Piro, a full day long. Packed lunch.

The San Pietro’s Church, built of the homonymous mountain in the town of Berbenno, is best known as “San Piro”.

Built in the XII century in a Romanesque style, it is said that it is the oldest church in the Imagna Valley. Inside this small church you can admire frescos dating back to the years 1300-1400, a painting by the painter Andrea Previtali and another one, dating back to the year 1600, by the painter Pietro Ronzelli.

It is a widespread belief that the people killed by the plague, mentioned in the famous Alessandro Manzoni’s novel “I promessi sposi” (“The Betrothed”), had been deposited in the meadow between the San Piro Church and the cemetery.
